Q: What is permanent jewelry?
Permanent jewelry is a custom bracelet, anklet, or necklace that is sized just for you and welded together. It is sometimes called infinity jewelry or welded jewelry. It has no clasp, and not something you take off before bed or showering, therefore it is called permanent jewelry. Technically there isn't anything permanent about the jewelry except for the term. Dainty chains are used and recommended. A non-breakable chain could cause damage to a person, so we DO want the chain to give if caught on something to prevent injury to the wearer.
Q: What if I want it removed?
If you are tired of the piece, you are having a medical procedure, and it is recommended to remove the piece it is very easy to do. You can use scissors, wire cutters, or even nail trimmers to clip the jump ring on your permanent jewelry. Save your chain as we can reweld it when you are ready.
Q: How old do you have to be to get one?
Right now, we do not place permanent jewelry on any person under the age of 13. We ask that clients aged 13-18 come with a legal guardian to give consent. For younger clients, with guardian consent clasps are available at an additional cost.
Q: What if a group of friends want to get one all at once, but I don't want a welded piece?
At Sugar Spark we love group get togethers and will happily book a private event (see our bookings page). We do require the group be 5 or more individuals committing to getting at minimum, a bracelet in order for us to travel and do a set up. We offer clasps at an additional cost for those who want to participate but aren't comfortable with welding.
Q: What about going through TSA or having an MRI?
TSA does not require you to remove fine jewelry. Gold filled, Sterling Silver and Solid Gold are not magnetic however, MRI facilities may require you to remove your permanent jewelry. Just cut the jump ring and save the chain. Sugar Spark will be happy to re-weld any of OUR pieces back on for you after a medical procedure at no charge. There is a charge for a re-weld of pieces that were not placed by Sugar Spark.
Q: Will my jewelry turn green or make my skin dark?
Most metals for jewelry, other than 24K solid gold, has the potential to react to environmental factors due to the other metal alloys present that give the jewelry strength. For instance, 14K gold is 14 parts gold and 10 parts another metal such as nickel or copper. Other elements added to gold (to give it strength) can react to environmental factors and cause color changes. Skin PH, lotions, perfumes, chlorinated pools, hot tubs, sunscreen and other chemicals can all lead to discoloring of the skin or metal. If your skin does become discolored, it is not permanent. Dish soap and a washcloth should remove the discoloration from your skin. We recommend that you wash your jewelry with a reputable jewelry cleaner or dish soap and a soft brush after being in a pool, hot tub, or the ocean to keep your jewelry looking its best. A polishing cloth used regularly will help maintain that beautiful luster. Be careful with perfumes, sprays, chlorine, cleaners (etc.) as this can cause pitting of your jewelry. Always wash and rinse well if your jewelry has been exposed to these things. With proper care your jewelry can last years. If your silver tarnishes, polishing with a polish cloth and using a good tarnish remover can return its luster.
Q: What is the difference between seasonal chain, classic chain and premium jewelry?
Seasonal jewelry is the lowest price point and is often chain with a colored enamel coating. These chains are unique, have a fun personality, but are subject to damage as the enamel coating is an overlay that can break off. These chains are often on sterling silver, gold plated or gold filled chain but can last with proper care. Classic chains are gold filled chains or sterling silver. Premium or Limited-edition chain are complex pieces to manufacture or special-order pieces that have a higher price point. They can be sterling silver, gold filled or solid gold. There is also the option of a custom level price point for special ordered items.
